Robert Druce, born in London, UK, in 1929. Ph.D. from Leiden University. Associate Professor of English Literature at Leiden University. († 2005)

I worked on two projects. The first was related to “word and image” studies, and here I was able to extend an existing essay, Colourless Green Signifieds Sleep Furiously: Reconciling the Word and the Image, and write an essay on the work of the painter Ralph Lillford. The second project, in the field of popular literature and ideology, saw me publish several essays on T.S. Eliot’s ‘Sweeney’ Poems, Ian Fleming’s Bond novels and George Orwell’s 1984
