Deirdre Curtin, born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1960. LL.D. from the National University of Ireland, Galway. Professor of International and European Governance at the Utrecht School of Governance.
Fellow (1 September 2007 – 30 June 2008)
PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY AND THE EUROPEAN UNION
I completed the first draft of my book manuscript “Executive Power in the European Union. Law, Practices and Constitutionalism” (nine chapters not including the conclusions). The first draft is under review with finalization expected in Autumn 2008. Without the unpressured and stimulating environment that is NIAS this book would never have come together in the way it now has. The ‘space to think’ and write was invaluable; the support facilities, especially the library, unbeatable. I gave papers at a series of conferences throughout Europe (Paris, Dublin, Mannheim, Sofia, Florence etc.) and these papers have been turned into (forthcoming or planned) publications. It was also wonderful and inspiring to talk on issues relating broadly to my research with international fellows from different disciplines (eg. history, political science) and highly enriching in terms of my own understanding with implications for my broader research agenda.
