Pierre Cahuc, born in Montreuil, France, in 1962. Ph.D. from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. Professor of Economics at the University of Antilles and Guyane, Pointe-à-Pitre.

My research while I was at NIAS focused mainly on the relationship between economic performances and the institutional features of the labour market. I wrote three papers on this topic. The first paper, entitled Unemployment is lower if unions bargain over employment, constitutes a critique of a recent paper written by Layard and Nickell (1990). The second paper examines the efficiency of corporatism in a dynamic context. The last paper, written with Francis Kramarz (Insee, Paris), tries to give fundations to labour market duality,
