Ian Budge, born in Leeds, UK, in 1936. Ph.D. from Yale University, New Haven. Professor of Government at the University of Essex, Colchester.
Fellow (1 September 1995 – 30 June 1996)
In 1995/96 I worked with the theme group on “Political Parties and the Quality of Democracy”, on collecting and analysing comparative data for a major book on central democratic processes. The book, Organizing Democratic Choice, covers sixteen democracies and six major collections of data for the post war period. It is half written and anticipated to be completed by Easter 1997.
Besides this I finished a textbook on The Politics of the New Europe, with Ken Newton and others, which will be published by Longmans, London at the beginning of 1998. The stay at NIAS was a unique opportunity to work closely with colleagues and to achieve results that would never have been possible otherwise.
