Bracher, M.

Michael Bracher, born in Vancouver, Canada, in 1950. Ph.D. from the Australian National University, Canberra. Assistant Professor of Sociology at the Australian National University, Canberra.

Fellow (1 September 1988 – 31 July 1989)

My work at NIAS devoted primarily to studying life-history data on marital unions of women which were collected by the Australian Family Project of the Research School of Social Sciences, The Australian National University. My analysis of patterns of entry into marriage and cohabiting unions indicate that contrary to the economic theory of marriage, the major influence retarding the formation of marriages has been the proportion working among the young.
