My research during my year at NIAS focussed on the following questions: to what extent was the “German factor” in the period 1800-1940 influential for the articulation of a national identity and the political-cultural debates in the Netherlands. Where did these influences consist of? How did the influence of the German culture and politics on the Netherlands change over time?
