The starting-point of the so-called ‘contingency theoretical’ approach in history and sociology is the idea that the qualification of actions, events and processes as ‘social’, i.e. as elements of the social reality, presupposes the contingency of these elements. One of the aims of my reasearch is to develop this assumption in a critical confrontaion with the sociological tradition.
