The first priority in my plan for the year was extensive reading in the field of social stratification. Another important research theme was the work for ‘Ideologies of Work’, dealing with the way work is perceived and evaluated. Then the third main area covered was the research for ‘The Theoretical Inadequacy of Social Mobility Research’, which looks particularly at the theoretical implications of the methodology. Finally, I worked on a sociological analysis of the economics of unemployment.
