The project formed part of the nucleus “Tatian’s Diatessaron”. This theme dealt with the reconstruction of text of John’s Gospel, chapters 1-5, as preserved in this gospel harmony of the second century. My contribution focussed mainly on the Eastern branch of the Diatessaron tradition, especially in its fourth-century form. For that purpose I have examined the Commentary on the Diatessaron of Ephraem both in its Syriac form and in the Armenian version, and his Syriac hymns and homilies; further the homilies of Aphrahat the Persian sage, both in its Syriac form and the Armenian version, and finally the Syriac Liber Graduum. The results of my research are included in the electronic corpus of the theme group. Moreover specific studies were made of the textual form of the “Wedding at Cana” (John 2:1-11) in the fourth-century Diatessaron. The results will be published in a forthcoming monograph on this passage under the auspices of the theme group.
