Werner Abraham, born in Berlin, Germany, in 1936. Ph.D. from the University of Vienna. Professor of German Philology and Medieval Literature at the University of Groningen.

During my research year at NIAS, I conducted research on the conditions under which grammatical relations can be realized in a generative grammar and identified this in the three West-Germanic languages: Dutch, English and German.
