Collaboration Policy

NIAS actively seeks and maintains partnerships that align with its values. By the same token, we avoid or sever ties with partners that seriously undermine our principles.

NIAS is committed to academic freedom and upholds this commitment through fellowships, research collaborations, and advocacy, such as our Safe Haven Fellowship Programme and Fellows Solidarity Fund. We actively seek and maintain partnerships that align with these values.

However, we avoid or sever ties with any state, civil, or private entities that undermine academic freedom, deny academic rights, or restrict access to academic resources.

In making these decisions, NIAS adheres to Dutch laws and the regulations of institutions like the Royal Academy. We do not make independent statements on these matters, but will highlight any deviations or concerns related to the regulations we follow.

If NIAS feels the need to take a position beyond those of its governing bodies, we will make that clear. We are always open to constructive debate about our positions and any changes by severed parties that could lead to reconsidering these decisions.
