Stephen Gardiner, born in UK, in 1967. Ph.D. from Cornell University, New York. Professor of Philosophy at the University of Washingon, Seattle.
Fellow (1 September 2011 - 31 January 2012)
My NIAS fellowship served as a bridge between my previous book, A Perfect Moral Storm: The Ethical Tragedy of Climate Change (Oxford, 2011), and new projects on geoengineering, precaution, and justice towards future generations. During the five months of the fellowship, I worked on papers on geoengineering and moral responsibility, the ethics of geoengineering research, justice and past climate emissions, and climate change and human rights. These papers have been or will soon be submitted to international journals, and I have presented them at various conferences. I have also prepared a joint proposal for the Oxford Handbook on Environmental Ethics, which has now been accepted by Oxford University Press.
