GOVERNING EUROPE: TECHNOLOGY, EXPERTS AND NETWORKS

At NIAS I was a member of the research theme group "Inventing Europe. A Transnational History of European Integration". Together with Johan Schot and Wolfram Kaiser I was co-author of the volume with the provisional title "Governing Europe: Technology, Experts and Networks". This book is a transnational history of changing forms of European governance as they have developed since the mid-nineteenth century. We concentrate on the role of technology, experts and their networks as well as international organizations in making distinct European governance structures.

I analyzed the archival material which I had collected from different archives around Europe in the year before my coming to Wassenaar. Thanks to the great research environment at NIAS I was able to write the chapters about the origins of Comecon in general, and case studies of an international organization among the Comecon members "Agromash", as well as the International Institute of Agriculture.
