FRENCH HISTORY (NINETEENTH-TWENTIETH CENTURY)

My main project has been to continue work on a study started in 2002 on three perhaps four generations of French artists and intellectuals: Scheffer, Renan, Psichari. This should result in a French cultural and family history (1814-1914). I carried out literature search and worked in the archives in Paris. This year I also worked on my book Zoon en vader / Vader en zoon [Son and father, Father and son] which I hope to complete in the summer of 2007. I also spent a lot of my time carrying out the duties of Editor in Chief of the series Plaatsen van herinnering (4 dln.; Amsterdam 2005-2007) and as Editor in Chief of the European Review. Interdisciplinary Journal of the Academia Europaea / European Academy. Finally, I delivered several lectures in: Parijs (Musée du Quai Branly), South Africa (University of Stellenbosch) and published a number of articles in scientific journals as well as popular magazines.
