THE HISTORY OF EUROPEAN PHILOLOGY OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY

During my stay at NIAS as Guest of the Rector (January - March 2005), I worked on a variety of topics including the famous German scholar August Karlovič Nauck and his impact on classical scholarship in Russia during the latter half of the nenteenth century and the belle époque of the Russian Humanities (ca 1875 - 1925). This has resulted in an article entitled "August Karlovič Nauck (1822 - 1892) und russische Philologie", which will be submitted to the editors of the journal Philologus (Berlin).

I wrote and delivered a NIAS seminar on the "Shifting meanings of the word 'academic' from antiquity to modern times" which should result in an article acknowledging NIAS explicitly.

I also worked on Encheiridion of Epictetus during the centuries (in Russian) and continued work on the commentary to the original from the Greek Stoic Handbook).

An unforeseen task was an urgent request to edit a German version of my research on "Marcus Aurelius in Russia" (Russian version in 1985) which will appear in Germany in the form of a small monograph.
