Henk Wesseling

Henk Wesseling, born in The Hague, the Netherlands, in 1937. Ph.D. from Leiden University. Professor of Contemporary History, Emeritus, at Leiden University and former Rector of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (1995 to 2002).

FRENCH CULTURE IN THE NINETEENTH CENTURY: THREE GENERATIONS OF ARTISTS, PHILOSOPHERS AND WRITERS BELONGING TO THE SCHEFFER-RENAN-PSICHARI FAMILY

During the second year of my Honorary Fellowship, for which I would like to thank the Directorate of NIAS, two tasks asked much of my attention: in the first place the finishing of The European Colonial Empires, 1815-1919, which came out in the spring of 2004. In the second place my work on another project: a book with the provisional title of "France at War, 1870-1962".
